About the Process

18 July 2009 - Community Visioning workshop

Over 3000 invites went out to Bentley residents in June 2009 seeking residents involvement in a community workshop to discuss the Brownlie neighbourhood and a future changes to the area.

On the day over 80 residents attended the luncheon and workshop to discuss their greatest fears and aspiration for their community including their hope for the future through redevelopment.

The Community wanted;

'A safe vibrant community, people want to come to, and embraced diversity and supports sustainable healthy living'

The day was hugely positive and allowed the community the opportunity to vent past frustration and move forward towards solutions and an environment of hope and unity. The attached is the workshop summary, however, core themes included the Desire for ;

    • A heart/focal point for the community
    • A safe and welcoming environment;
    • More attractive neighbourhood (resulted in additional verge collection);
    • Desire for greater shop variety; and
    • Bus services and community health (a local doctor).
